The Ugly Duckling

I had the concept of the Ugly Duckling in mind for the last
PC&S submission and thought I'd share it today since it was not picked up.
After staring at it as I'm writing my blog I realized it definitely appeared better in my head...lol!
My idea was to create a scene out of a book (hence the typed background paper)
and will enter this in the latest Lawnscaping Challenge: Critters Galore

Lawn Fawn Hello Baby and dies, Lawn Fawn Jessie's ABCs, Lawn Fawn Scalloped border die
copic markers, Hero Arts Shadow inks

The Ugly Duckling was a frequent bed time read as my brother and I
 were frequently teased growing up.
On those nights my mom would pull this book out.
My brother was born with a birth defect called Cleft Lip and Palate and
til this day my brother and I argue about who had the rougher childhood
I grew up "happily plump" and he with his surgery scars...
(silly conversations that really don't prove a  point...lol).

I love reminiscing and realizing that it's all pretty menial in the scheme of things.
This is pretty much how my parents raised us...

Mahalo for stopping by!

  2. Love love love love this!!!! LOVING those little ducks!! And I can totally relate my friend ... I had glasses, pigeon toed, taller than everyone in class (5 foot 9 inches by age 10!!!) and I had a tumor in my wrist that was operated on and left a "suicide" looking scar down my wrist, where EVERYONE accused me of trying to kill myself ... oy! Kids are mean .... I just wish there was a way to erase all the ugly inside! Hugs!!!!!!!

  3. Cute card! Love that you made it a point to color the last duck a different color. The Ugly Duckling is a good story with a happy ending. Your card gave me an inspiration to make one! ^^ Thanks!

  4. awwwww....Niki, love this post. Your card is adorable. Isn't it funny to look back at our childhood and remember those things that were traumatizing to us and realize in the grand picture...it made us stronger.

  8. This card is simply amazing! I love that tale, too and I needed it sometimes when I was a child (or more precisely, an adolescent, I think). Love the way you translated it to a card, it's super cute! :)
