Partial Die Cutting for A Blog Named Hero

Happy Sunday all...

A Blog Named Hero came out with their latest challenge

and I had some fun doing partial die cutting with
Hero Arts Stamp and Cut Butterflies.

I first started off with Hero Arts Kraft cardstock and laid my butterfly die
where I wanted it and taped it down with some washi tape.
I have a picture tutorial to explain the process...

I thought the Kraft was too plain so I decided to stamp out the "hello" from
(I masked the butterfly when stamping out the sentiment, then used the butterfly
solid polka dot inked in Unicorn first then stamped again in
The center of the butterfly was inked in Hero Arts India Ink Black.
I then layered Lawn Fawn's Sweater Weather pattern paper for more pop of color!

I thought the colors perfect for the upcoming fall season.  Can't wait for cooler weather!!

I think I'll make a bunch more.  Seemed simple enough and by just changing the sentiment
I could make birthday and thank you ones as well!

That's it for me today!  A big MAHALO for stopping by!!

P.S.-So sorry for the delay in my giveaway!  I'll be setting up my Winner's post soon.
Stay tuned and I hope to do another giveaway next month!!

Aloha with My Favorite Things

I finally caved and decided to join the My Favorite Things
I've seen a bunch of FABULOUS cards which was my biggest hesitation for not joining.

Then decided to have some fun anyway with my favorite MFT set
Polynesian Paradise.

I wanted to create my own Hawaiian background and give it an "Aloha Shirt" print or
Hawaiian print look.  Of course with watercoloring being all the rage I got out my
Tombow markers and got to work!
Everything was stamped with Versamark then white heat embossed.
I watercolored the plumerias in shades of yellows and pinks.  Finally to create
more depth and shadowing, I added shades of blue having more color around the bottom
edges of the images and using my waterbrush to pull the blue away.
Lastly the sentiment was white heat embossed on some pink cardstock and foam taped to the panel.

Here's another look...

So that's it for me.
There's still time to enter and I'm hoping to get one more card in
 before midnight tomorrow (September 18).

You're Dino-Mite and GIVEAWAY!

Oh yea, the weekend is ALMOST here!

I've got a quick post to play along with the latest

I had a special request from a coworker to create a birthday card
for her nephew who loves dinosaurs.
Of course I had to pull out my Lawn Fawn and get to work!
The texture challenge was the perfect inspiration to play with cork
from DCWV Cork Solids Stack Brights.  It has such beautiful colors and
die cuts like butter!  I used Lawn Fawn Black Licorice for a crisp stamped image.

Everything came together quickly with pattern paper from
Lawn Fawn's Beachside Pint Sized Patterns as the background.  I die cut a
stitched oval stackable to create the base of the scene.  Then die cut some grass and adhered
the images with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive (my favorite liquid adhesive).
The brontosaurus was adhered with foam dots for some dimension.

I wish you could feel the texture through the screen!
I used a cool gray copic marker to create some shadowing on the dinosaurs since
they were all die cut from colored cork.

There you have it!
I'm hoping he loves it!!

Oh and since you made it this far I'm doing a GIVEAWAY!
The hubby recently "renovated" my blog look and I wanted to celebrate!!

I would love to hear what you would do with $20 to the A2Z Scrapbooking Store.
You have until Monday (9/14) at midnight Hawaiian Standard Time to comment on
Good luck and thanks for playing!!

Rainbow Aloha

Thanks to the hubby I've been able to get some time in for me to play!
So happy to finally have a day off from work and oncall and
just be able to spend time in my crafty space.
It truly is so therapeutic...haha.

I wanted to jump in to the latest Avery Elle Challenge

This was totally my kind of challenge as I realized I don't usually use too much white for
my card bases.  I do love COLOR and went with this idea that popped in my head...

The Stay Fresh stamp and die set is one of my favorites from Avery Elle!
Super easy to do with die cutting a rainbow of cardstock from some scrap pieces and adhering
to a black cardbase with multi medium matte glue.  Then I heat embossed the pineapple on
vellum using Ranger Liquid Platinum powder and adhered with the same glue
(tip: to keep the glue from showing through, I placed tiny dots
in places where the stamp lines would cover).
I'm gonna enter this in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge as well:  Make it colorful!

Hope you liked this fun way to use your dies and a non white card base!

Lunch Box Notes for Kitty Bee Designs

Yay for Wednesday!

Today I'm over at Kitty Bee Designs showing off these fun
lunch box notes I made for the kiddos.
Can you believe they actually questioned how come they didn't have any yet for the school year?
Oops...didn't even know they cared...haha

These were super easy to make.  I took a die from Avery Elle Wonky Stitches Die
and scored in half to create a card.
Stamped out that sweet Bun I Coloring in Hero Hues India Ink Black (perfect for watercoloring).
Then took out some Distress Markers and colored away.
My son loves red and my daughter blue so it was easy to come up with a color theme.
Added some baker's twine from my stash and voila!
Easy peasy lunch box notes!!

Stop by Kitty Bee Designs for more cute images
including digis that you can play with right away!

It's Shaker time over at A2Z Scrapbooking!

Can you believe it's September already?!
We're shaking things up over at

A2Z Scrapbooking
Our next challenge is to make a shaker card using some Hero Arts products!
Come join the fun for your chance to win a  $25 gift certificate to the store.
They specialize in everything Hero Arts, but they also take requests for items that you don't see.
You can even use code Nicki15 for 15% off your entire order!!

Here's my shaker...

I first took Hero Arts Layering paper and die cut out a square
for my shaker window.
I used that sweet pig image from Hero Arts Playful Animals (stamped out twice)
so I could cut out it's head and pop up on foam tape to create a little
head tilt to talk on the phone (from Hero Arts Friends with Lia).
The phone was covered in glossy accents for an old
fashioned look and I hand drew in the coils to connect the phone.
The sentiment was inked up in Hero Arts Ombre Ink Gray to Black on the inside of the card.
I lined the back side of the card front with acetate, filled with Doodlebug Sequins, placed
another layer of acetate and sealed with washi tape.
Then to cover up I added another panel with a die cut square to cover up the washi taped edges.

Here's a closeup...

Come play along with us over at
A2Z Scrapbooking
and show us your shaker project!

More to Love!
